Having cooked on the island itself, chef Baba has an intimate knowledge of the flavors of Sardinia. Based on this knowledge he has personally selected a list of high value wines from the island and encourages you to enjoy taking some time to get to know them for yourself.

一時「子供の街」と揶揄された時期もある渋谷だが、都心を縦に走る新しい地下鉄もスタートし、より沢山の人が交錯する街、そして様々な世代が楽しめる街として日々変化を続けている。そんな渋谷のど真ん中、東急プラザの斜め後ろに位置する「南イタリア・サルデーニャ島家庭料理」のお店が「タロス」である。
通りから数歩上がった扉を開けると、左手に色鮮やかなデザートのケースと、前菜が並ぶカウンター&キッチン、そして右手には白い壁に茶色のテーブルが続く気持ちの良い空間が広がっている。さりげなく飾られた南イタリアモチーフの写真やポスター、棚に並んだワイン、シンプルなテーブルセッティングと、カジュアルな雰囲気。行き交うスタッフ達が産み出す空気が、食事を楽しむ温度をすっと上げてくれる。
上記のとおり、料理はサルデーニャ島の家庭料理。当地で約5年間働いた経験を持つオーナーの馬場シェフが、様々な民族の交錯を経たこの島独自の食文化を、一皿一皿、アグレッシブに表現している。数々の小皿前菜、鮮魚のパスタ、仔羊や豚肉のオーブン焼きやグリル・・・味わい深い料理をリーズナブルに楽しむことが出来る。ワインも、気軽にボトルで楽しめる価格のものが大半。ちなみにランチタイム後はカフェとして、そしてディナータイムのカウンターは立ち飲みのバールとしても利用可能。
南イタリアに少し詳しい方であればお気付きのことと思うが、店名の「タロス」はサルデーニャ島西部の海岸にあるタロス遺跡からとったもの。彼の地はフェニキアや古代ローマの文化が交錯した場所。様々な人々とそれぞれの文化が交錯する渋谷の玄関口として、幅広く利用したい一軒。
Not too long ago, Shibuya was often referred to somewhat sarcastically as a city of juveniles. It is, however, very obvious to all that it is transitioning rather quickly away from this image. A new subway line going through Shibuya is connecting people living in the residential areas to the northeast of Tokyo directly to Shibuya. This is having a large impact on the move away from a place exclusively for teenagers. Located very centrally in this wonderfully diverse ward of Tokyo, diagonally behind the Tokyu Plaza Building, is Tharros serving family style cuisine from the island of Sardinia located off the southwest coast Italy.
As you step inside the front door at Tharros, you will be greeted by a very colorful showcase featuring various desserts, and just beyond this is the kitchen area with its counter on which a variety of appetizers are neatly displayed. On your right is the comfortable dining space scattered with simple brown tables surrounded by white walls. The atmosphere is brought alive by the southern Italian themed pictures and drawings on the walls, the omnipresent wine bottles, and very unpretentious table settings.
Chef Baba worked intensively on the island of Sardinia for five years. As the island is hemmed in all sides by the French island of Corsica to the north, by the Italian Peninsula to the east, by Tunisia to the south, and the Spanish Balearic Islands to the west, it truly has developed its own unique culinary culture. The Chef confidently expresses Sardinia’s rich and even complicated culinary tradition on the plates emerging from his kitchen. You can savor a variety of small plate appetizers, pastas combined with fresh seafood, as well as various meats from the oven and the grill. And we are pleased to report that the prices are more than reasonable, making this Ristorante another place that easily fits into a strict dining budget. The majority of wines on the list are also moderately priced, making it possible for you to enjoy them by the bottle, instead of by the glass. And true to Tokyo form, the restaurant is of course open for lunch. If a quick coffee in more of a cafe setting is what you are after, the bar counter functions as an Italian style bar as well, offering patrons yet another choice to enjoy the Italian experience.
If you are not familiar with southern Italian culture and history, you may be interested to note that this restaurant is named after an ancient city located on the west coast of Sardinia. That city is currently an archaeological site, and was a place occupied at points in history by both the Phoenicians and the ancient Romans. Just like historical Sardinia, modern Shibuya is home to a variety of different cultures, and is a place where the generations mingle.
